Real Time World Clock for Survey Earth in a Day

4D: It's About Time

In mathematics, four-dimensional space ("4D") is a geometric space with four dimensions. It typically is more specifically four- dimensional Euclidean space, generalizing the rules of three-dimensional Euclidean space. It has been studied by mathematicians and philosophers for over two centuries, both for its own interest and for the insights it offered into mathematics and related fields.

Algebraically, it is generated by applying the rules of vectors and coordinate geometry to a space with four dimensions. In particular a vector with four elements (a 4-tuple) can be used to represent a position in four- dimensional space. The space is a Euclidean space, so has a metric and norm, and so all directions are treated as the same: the additional dimension is indistinguishable from the other three.

In modern physics, space and time are unified in a four-dimensional Minkowski continuum called spacetime, whose metric treats the time dimension differently from the three spatial dimensions (see below for the definition of the Minkowski metric/pairing). Spacetime is not a Euclidean space.

Our Time on Survey Earth in a Day 4D

On June 21st, you might ask yourself "If I am submitting my data at Noon, what time is it in other places around the world?"  This quick little world clock tool we have made for Survey Earth in a Day 4D will make it very simple to visualize just that.

How to Log Your Point on June 21st #SEIAD

How to Log Your Point on #SEIAD
Our process for gathering the data from thousands of points around the earth in a single day has changed a bit over the years. This year we are going to try something different. Instead of waiting until Survey Earth in a Day to release the magic button/form for data submission, this year we are going to roll it out early and allow you to test the system and become familiar with the form so that there are no surprises on June 21st (Father's Day). We want to make this as quick and simple as possible.

So, there will be much more on this subject over the next few weeks but we encourage you to try using the form as much as you like to help us test and work out the bugs.

If you run into problems of any sort, please report them to Justin on Land Surveyors United.  Thank you for helping make this Survey Earth in a Day event the best it can possibly be.

Surveyors Connect for International Surveyors Week 2015

International Surveyors Week 2015
International Land Surveyors Week 2015 (June 14-21) is for Land Surveyors in any country on earth to celebrate the value of professional land surveyors in society. This is our 3rd year celebrating this week and it is slowly changing the industry into a more open and engagable situation for surveyors all around the world.  Have you recently noticed all of the surveying magazines and forum websites pushing the idea that they are global and/or international?  No need to wonder why.. just look at what we are doing together here on Land Surveyors United.  Stand up and represent your area of the world by introducing yourself in Groups for practically every inch of the earth!  What we are building is a comprehensive network for educating those new to surveying about both the similarities and differences shared between surveyors around the world based on locations, which we all know carry different guidelines and rules.  Tell us stories about your surveying experiences where you live and enjoy reading the stories of others who live elsewhere, but face similar professional challenges.  In the future, the most well rounded surveyors will be those who understand how things are done outside of their local environment.  Build, Grow and Improve your Surveying Carrier, Together!
No Mind Left Behind
SURVEY EARTH in a DAY 4D occurs June 21st at Noon on the solstice, so if you happen to be a surveyor who will need to borrow equipment from your company for the weekend, please remember to make the necessary arrangements with your boss.  SEIAD will occur at Noon on  June 21st and surveyors across the globe will be taking survey grade GPS measurements within their local area and submitting them to Land Surveyors United, as we measure the entire earth during the course of a single day. Represent the land surveyors in your area of the world by participating in surveyor events each and every day of International Surveyors Week 2015.  On Thursday, we will be sending out the form for submitting your data for Survey Earth in a Day.

Remeasuring the Planet in a Single Day

Event details

Survey Earth in a Day is a FREE event for professional land surveyors and students of #surveying worldwide.
Survey Earth in a Day 4D
June 21st @Noon
On the day of the solstice June 21, 2015, geospatial professionals around the world and members of Land Surveyors United (a global support network for land surveyors) will be simultaneously recording survey grade GNSS/GPS data from thousands of points around the globe, in order to promote awareness of and a better public understanding of the surveying profession. Measurements made on this day will serve as comparative data from prior events and to expand upon the database of logged points.

*The official form for submitting data will be live on the day before the event.
*RSVP early and promote the event on your own website to be listed among our supporters here: http://goo.gl/l17eO3

Survey Earth in a Day 4D is a great opportunity to come together once again as a global surveying community to gather data and increase public awareness of the surveying profession. It also provides a forum for teaching others about the significant contribution Survey Grade GPS is making in their lives and communities each day. Those new to GPS and the surveying profession will have an opportunity to observe local surveyors in action and learn more about the importance of the profession.   The event happens to also fall on the last day of International Surveyors Week 2015
